THE DANGER OF GREED

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C Luke 12:13-21 Jesus in today’s gospel warns us to guard against all greed. “Avoid greed in all its forms. A man may be wealthy, but his possessions do not guarantee him life.” The parable of the rich fool illustrates how fleeting the possession of material riches can be. Folks, our goal should be to make ourselves rich with the things which God considers to be riches. Nowadays, we are enticed on every front to crave more wealth, more possessions and higher status, but today Jesus reminds us that when we die, our wealth, our possessions, and our status will not matter. Jesus warns us against all forms of greed because it takes us away from God and away from serving and loving Him in other people. Friends, life is not made secure by what we own. Choose to want less rather than to have more for all things are vanity. The most dangerous thing is to want more. Happiness come from spiritual wealth not material wealth. If your happiness depends on money, you never be happy with yourself. Therefore seek not material wealth but seek the Lord who owns it all. Lets be rich towards God. Why? Because we all go to eternity empty-handed and anything that we have acquired will only go to our heirs. Conclusion: 1. All are meaningless 2. Seek the things that are above. 3. Recognize the source of your prosperity Blessings Fr. Jhack
